In light of some recent unpleasantness, Healthy Times Fun Club is no longer allowing any drinking at their shows.
The Food Not Bombs benefit on Nov 24th was a huge success! They made a thousand bucks, fed a bunch of people, and the masses were entertained. Seattle FNB is still looking for more volunteers, so if you're interested, call David at 206-949-0322.
SeattleDIY Collective's first Sunday meetings will be moved to The Ark (myspace.com/thesarkseattle), and we'll be using that time to work on some big zine projects we have going on. Please come! Bringing a laptop would be especially useful.

Welcome to some new additions to the DIY community here in Seattle: The Ark, and The Swamp House! Both are already hosting events, and seem to be pretty rad places. Visit their pages at myspace.com/thearkseattle and myspace.com/swamphouseseattle, respectively.
The SeattleDIY Collective has been talking about
wanting to push all this focus on musical events into something that
can benefit a wider population: let's start having benefit events!
We're going to help spaces organize a monthly benefit show, hopefully
featuring some great workshops, too. If you're interested in having
your DIY space or project be involved, let us know!
We love workshops! We?re looking for people to share
some skills, facilitate some discussions, and teach some classes. A lot
of DIY spaces have expressed an interest in hosting workshops, so let
us know what you can do, and what your availability is, and we can hook
you up with the right people.
The fine folks at the Bike Shack have let us know
that their hours have changed. You can get all your bicycle repair
skills every Tuesday through Thursday, noon til 5pm.

The Wayward Cafe has changed it's hours! They're now
open from 9am to 4pm. Also, they're looking for cooks and bakers. Ask
them about the possibility of being an occasional line cook, or doing
food prep and dish washing. Become a part of Seattle's one and only
Collectively Run Vegan Cafe!
The Vera Project is
looking for feedback ? what should its future look like? They have a
handy survey on their website at theveraproject.org. Also, they're
still needing to raise money - if you haven't donated, you should!

Camp Nowhere is dead! Long live Dog City! That's right,
the folk at Camp Nowhere have changed their name to Dog City, as now
they're essentially a new house with mostly new people. To see what's

Home Alive, everyone's favorite ass-kicking anti-violence
organization, is having a monthly Social Hour. This is a great
opportunity to become familiar with Home Alive, and also meet other
people doing projects in town. We'll be there for sure!
Both The Bikery and The Bike Shack are looking
for more volunteers right now. The Bikery is having a monthly open
community meeting where people can get oriented with their projects,
share ideas, and see what it's all about. Visit thebikery.org for

In case you missed it, The Richard Hugo House's Zine Archive and Publishing Project
has temporarily closed its doors. There are some people who are working
hard making sure that it reopens in January. Keep an eye out for ZAPP
related events and announcements, and be sure to write to the Hugo

With increasing frequency, people are asking us to help them find a room in a shared/communal house.
This is great! If you're looking for a place, message us at

rooms open at your house. We also love giving advise to people who have
just moved or are moving to Seattle.

SEPTEMBER 2007 NEWS!
The Hugo House Zine Archiving and Publishing Project will
be taking a break until 2008. That's right, the zine library will no
longer be open for their drop-in hours. Be sure to contact the Richard
Hugo House and tell them how much you're looking forward to ZAPP's
return.
The SS Marie Antoinette has closed doors. It's been a long
and occasionally bumpy ride, but the SSMA has been one of the most
consistent and beloved DIY spaces that Seattle has ever seen. If you'd

The SeattleDIY.com website fell apart in early September -
sorry to all the people who rely on it for information about upcoming
events. We're rebuilding the website and the database, so hopefully
everything will be running optimally soon.
New vegan restaurant in town! The Squid & Ink in
Georgetown was recently started by one of the Wayward Cafe collective
members. It's delicious and worth the trek to Georgetown no matter what
neighborhood you live in.
Carousel Festival 2007 was a smashing success! We had 30
performers at 5 venues, with a few workshops and a little bit of film,
and we raised $400 for Home Alive. Mad props to Nathan for doing a
lion's share of the organizing, and thanks to Home Alive, Hollow Earth
Radio, the SS Marie Antoinette, Camp Nowhere, The Greenhouse, The Dog
Park, and the Fusion Cafe. Next Spring we'll be organizing next year's
Carousel Festival, and we hope to have a lot of people around to help
out. In the mean time, the SeattleDIY Collective is looking to work on
other projects, like an ambitious zine project, and a few other random

AUGUST NEWS!
CAROUSEL FESTIVAL!
Carousel Fest is an annual DIY festival put on by the SeattleDIY
Collective and other friends to highlight all the incredible things
that are happening in this community. Carousel Fest will be at The
Greenhouse, The SS Marie Antoinette, The Dog Park, The Fusion Cafe, and
Camp Nowhere from August 24th to August 26th. We'll have about 25+
bands, workshops, film, and food!
Proceeds from Carousel Fest will go to Home Alive! (www.homealive.org)
Seattle Likes Bikes! There?s going to be a ride to help advocate
for better city bicycle measures, specifically fixing a new problem
with the city?s Bicycle Master Plan. The ride will be on August 1st and
will meet at Gasworks Park at 4:30 (just in time for rush hour!).
Every last Sunday of the month, we?re inviting people who are involved in DIY/Community event organizing
to the SeattleDIY meeting so that we can discuss your current
happenings, share news, discuss concerns, work on collaborations, and
get to know others who are doing similar projects. If you are a part of
a group that would like to attend, let us know! This meeting is open to
everybody, so if you're not part of a group you're welcome to attend
also! Meeting is at 6pm at the Harvard Home (110 Harvard Ave E, by
Harvard & Denny on Capitol Hill).

Healthy Times Fun Club has a new space on capitol hill! They?ll
be doing a few events each month, and also hosting workshops, secret

like to be involved.
There are a number of places that most likely won?t be having shows
anymore: The Fried Chicken Barge, Artworks, and after August Friendly
Friends. However, there are some new spaces ? The Bronze, and ShaBang,
both in the CD.
The Bike Shack was robbed two weeks ago, and they're missing a number
of tools and some money. If anyone knows anything about it, please let
them know. Also, they need more volunteers! Stop by and let them know
if you want to help others work on their bikes! And as always, The Bike
Shack is open Thursday and Friday 4-7 and Saturday and Sunday 1-6.
The ZAPP was also robbed of their computer and some money recently. Any

Return of the Mix-Tape drop box! Bring a mix tape and pick one up at
Singles Going Steady (2nd & Bell in Belltown). Seriously, this is
really rad.
If you know of anyone who votes in Redmond, tell them to vote YES for
Proposition 2, which will open the Old Fire House Teen Center to 7
days/week. The OFH is a really incredible space and is having its 15
year anniversary in September.
There are some exciting things happening near Seattle this month ? The
Portland Zine Symposium on the 11th and 12th, and Queeruption in
Vancouver BC from the 1st to the 7th.

JUNE NEWS!!
Mix Tape Trade Box! At Singles Going Steady there is now a box where
you can drop off mix tapes or CDRs, and pick up one that someone else
has dropped off. We highly encourage cool packaging, themed mixes, and
any other rad stuff you can think of.
The SeattleDIY Collective is looking to publish and distro zines on
various topics relating to DIY culture. If you have a zine you?d like
us to distribute, or you know of a zine you?d like to recommend, let us
know!
Food Not Bombs is moving their Thursday hot meal to Sundays. They still
serve at Occidental Park in Pioneer Square, and now they cook at
Rainier Valley Unitarian Universalist Center in Yesler Terrace (835
Yesler Way) starting around 2:15 PM .To get involved in the cooking,
cleaning, serving or food collection, show up anytime on Thursdays or

The Bike Shack behind Wayward Cafe and The Bikery are now one
organization. And speaking of The Bike Shack, they got a bunch of new
parts and kids' bikes. Let your radical parent friends know ? get your
kids' bikes at The Bike Shack!! Also, the Bike Shack's hours will be
expanding to Tuesdays and Wednesdays ? hooray!
Healthy Times Fun Club! Some really awesome peeps are doing shows at
their house in Wedgwood (a little north of the U-District). They'll be
hosting get together's, collaborative dinners, bike rides, craft
nights, and of course ? shows.
At some shows at the SS Marie Antoinette some people have been
incredibly disrespectful, making a huge mess, tagging, and defacing the
space's art. The SSMA have been incredibly wonderful and gracious with
inviting so many people into their space ? let's make their efforts
feel appreciated, and let's keep it clean.
Sugar Crash, a mobile vegan bakery, is going to be having benefit bake

A number of houses are no longer doing shows for various reasons: The
Dearborn House, The Polka Dot House, and The Holy Land (probably).
New bicycle riding group for women ? Slow Sundays! Every Sunday, but
one Sunday each month will be themed (ie, Coffee & Cupcakes).
Ursa Minor is unfortunately no longer with us. The amazing young people
in charge can no longer dedicate their time to the project.
